Contrary to what the title says, I am not a librarian nor have I ever been one. I have spent at least half my life in libraries and usually visit them when I can't handle life anymore. I wouldn't shun a job working in one, but as most people understand, I know those jobs are hard to come by.
Why the title then? And what exactly am I if I'm not a librarian?
The title comes from The Mummy movie. It comes from the scene with Evie and O'Connell, after Evie gets drunk and tells O'Connell about her parents. She tells O'Connell that she's not an adventurer or a treasure seeker but she's proud of what she is. A librarian. (And she spends the whole movie sprouting random facts of history.)
So why the title? Because it is one of those lines I've stumbled upon which I think fits my own character. While I could be considered an adventurer, I could be classified even better as a librarian. Someone who is swept along in adventurers, or who finds adventure uncovering knowledge.
The truth is, I don't really know what I'd be able to call myself. I study Archaeology and work on digs so I might be able to call myself an Archaeologist. I snoop around places I'm not always supposed to be so I might be called noisy. I'm a writer, a reader, but more than that I'm someone who spends as much time outside as I possibly can. I'm an explorer, a hiker, and I'm always on the search for something new and wonderful.
In other words, I'm me. Someone who is a little clumsy, who carries a book with me wherever I go, who likes to take pictures, and who is restless. I'm the person who goes for a hike and can't simply hike up a path and come back down, but must come down a different path so I can see something new. I'm reckless but cautious, I'm daring but scared. And I'm not ashamed of what I am, whatever that might be.
Always with my faithful companion - my dog Jenni - at my side I plan to explore as much of the world as I possibly can. And that is the point of this blog. It could be called a travel blog, where I can record my adventures and mishaps. I do have another blog, where I focus more on Archaeology and my books, but here is dedicated to my hikes, to the places I visit, and a place to share the pictures I've taken. So if you want to see the world through the eyes of someone who sees things differently from everyone else - someone not afraid to leave the trails and venture into the unknown - someone unusual then come along for the journey.
I'm certain it will be anything but dull.
